Fluoride Glass Laboratory

 

RAP furnace    Our laboratory, under the direction of Dr. George Sigel, Jr., has been active in new and cutting edge research and development of fluoride  glasses.  These new glasses have exceptional properties and optical transitions in the near IR (0.51um-3 um).

  • Custom designed Reactive Atmosphere Processing Furnace
  • Low water, low oxygen MBraun Nitrogen  glove box 
  • EMCO Compact 5 Lathe for rotation casting (2800 RPM)
  • Buehler Isomet Low Speed Diamond cutting wheel
  • Suction casting molds
  • Electrochemical Purification Cell

  • Fluoride and Fluoro/Chloride compositions
  • Rare Earth Doped compositions
  • Spin Cast tubes
  • Reactive Atmosphere Processing ( NF3 , SF6)
  • Glass melting up to 1200o
  • Precision polishing down to 1/4 um finish
  • Spin casting tubes and core/clad configuration
  • Suction casting core/clad preforms
  • Electrochemical purification of fluoride melts
